Conductive fabric · Add-on for the touch sleeve kit

Conductive fabric for touch pads and soft switches

Woven conductive fabric you can cut, iron on and sew. It is polyester plated with copper and nickel, under 1 ohm per foot, so a finger on a pad registers with a capacitive touch board. Each square is 20 cm by 20 cm.

What conductive fabric is used for

How to work with it

  1. Cut with sharp scissors. Pads of 2 to 3 cm are easy to hit with a fingertip.
  2. Back it with iron-on interfacing so the edges don't fray.
  3. Attach by ironing or stitching. Leave a gap between pads so one finger doesn't bridge two.
  4. Connect each pad with conductive thread, a metal snap or a crimp. Thread lines must never touch each other.

Conductive fabric FAQ

Is conductive cloth the same as conductive textile?

Yes. Conductive fabric, conductive cloth and conductive textile all mean fabric that carries electricity. Ours is a woven conductive fabric.

Can I use it to make touchscreen gloves?

Yes. Sew a small patch over the fingertip and stitch through with conductive thread so it touches your skin.

Is it washable?

It is best dry cleaned and can discolour over time. Remove any electronics first.

Can I solder to it?

Use snaps, crimps or conductive thread instead. The base is polyester, and a soldering iron can melt it.
